More Good Reasons to Renovate Now

A few months ago we told you about the Federal Government’s Home Renovations Tax Credit. In addition to this tax credit, homeowners can also qualify for the EcoENERGY Retrofit Grant. Details can be found on this government site: www.ecoaction.gc.ca.

For a limited time, grants under this program will increase by 25 percent. Each grant is a flat incentive amount based on completed qualified upgrades, and an approved energy evaluation of your home must be completed before the renovation begins. Provincial and municipal rebates can often be applied as well – making this the perfect time to renovate your home. In addition to the rebates, grants and tax credits, you’ll be saving energy costs and making your home more comfortable, functional and beautiful.

Karen’s Cottage Makeover

Like many Canadians, I’ve dreamed of owning my own cottage. This summer, I purchased an old log cabin on Lake Simcoe that has been neglected for many years and needs more than a little TLC. I decided that this would be a great opportunity to show how a dilapidated structure can be turned into a stylish and functional retreat – with the notion of staying within $30,000 in 30 days. You’ll have to stay tuned to see how well I did on my budget and timeframe.

The National Post will be following my progress – watch for features in the coming weeks. I’ll also be posting a regular blog on CasaGuru.com, starting very soon. And of course we’ll be showing footage on CityLine. I can’t wait to share this transformation with you.
